Why Scheffau?

Few villages enjoy a setting as spectacularly beautiful as Scheffau. Nestled in the sunny foothills of the Wilden Kaiser mountains against a backdrop of towering peaks, the village is also close to its own pristine mountain lake, the Hintersteinersee.

Our holidays here are offered on a more independent basis, without Esprit child care, which previous guests have found unnecessary due to the excellent family programme already offered by the friendly Hotel Alpin.

Travel Options
It's 665 miles from Calais to Scheffau.

Fly-drive: Fly to Innsbruck or Munich and take a hired car from there to the resort. Travelling times: Innsbruck 1 hours' drive: Munich 2 hours.

Kaprun is only 75 minutes scenic drive away, with a range of Esprit Child Care to complement the more independent style of stay here in Scheffau. Alternatively, plan your journey via one of our French or Swiss resorts on your way out or back.

For Ramblers, Hikers & Bikers

From the village there is a choice of paths of differing lengths leading to the Hintersteinersee lake, which makes an excellent first day's leisurely outing.

For longer, more adventurous walks, you are in the perfect spot, with paths heading both ways into the Wilden Kaiser range, either following the contours through the foothills, or for experienced hikers, up and over the passes into the Kaiserbach valley on the other side. There is also a free programme of guided walks and bike tours run by the Scheffau Tourist Office.

Alternatively, a 5-minute car ride takes you down to the Brandstadl cable-car, which brings you to the top of the opposite side of the valley, with its gentler hills, and an excellent area for mountain-biking, with trails both direct from the village and from the top of the Brandstadl cable-car.

The Esprit Welcome Wander takes place on Sundays and is a family-friendly walk, suitable for all ages, to introduce you to the local area. It offers a great opportunity to meet fellow guests and to plan the week's activities. The gentle walk will culminate at a scenic spot to enjoy a complimentary light picnic lunch.
