Great Days Out
In 1991 a 5,300 year-old perfectly preserved body was found
in a melting glacier in the mountains above Obergurgl. Since then, the man
has been affectionately named Őtzi, and all that has been discovered from
him can be learnt during a walk down the Őtztal ‘Urweg’ trail from Obergurgl
to Langtalereck at the Karlsruherhütte mountain hut.
In addition to the walk, archaeologists have created a small
village based around what Őtzi’s life would have been like, illustrating
life, living and the Neolithic age. Also in Őtzidorf is a picturesque
natural lake perfect for swimming or sunbathing on the banks. Obergurgl is
37kms from Őtzidorf.
25kms away from Obergurgl in the village of Langenfeld an
enormous indoor and outdoor leisure complex emblazons the landscape with its
ultra-modern, striking architecture. The complex offers indoor and outdoor
pools, spas, a children’s play area, plus a host of wellness facilities. The
complex is surrounded by stunning views of the Otz valley walls. |
